1. In Wonder

I am gazing

through the sight

at the deer

gazing all

at ease as if he knew

nothing about me,

sometimes looking

enchantedly at

himself in the water …

as my finger, closing, is

cramped

around the trigger …

2. In the Open

I am grazing

beside the lake

in the wood …

The grass is

soft

and sweet …

As the breeze

combs the water,

my body dissolves in the broken light …

And all

the while I am

feeling

The dark glaring eye

of the muzzle

set fast upon my back ….
